If there was 1 product you’ve been hearing about over the past year repeatedly it was, BB Creams. For those who like a lot of coverage, you probably by passed them not giving them much thought at all. While others who prefer a glowing natural look, jumped on the band wagon with abundance!
For me BB creams are a Spring/Summer must have. I hate my skin feeling clogged in the Summer. I prefer a lighter coverage that still evens my skin tone and makes me glow, but also minimises the blemishes (Previous scaring from spots) I often have. There are so many BB creams on the market its hard to know which are good and which to choose.
For those of you who aren’t sure what a BB cream is, here’s a little definition straight from Wikipedia….
BB cream, also known as Blemish Balm, Blemish Base or Beblesh Balm (due to an apparent copyright on the word “Blemish”), is a cosmetic item sold mainly in East and Southeast Asia, although larger beauty brands are increasingly introducing BB creams to Western markets as well. Originally formulated in Germany by dermatologist Dr. Christine Schrammek in the 1950s, the cream was initially used to protect skin after laser procedures and surgery, while also providing light coverage. Introduced to South Korea and Japan in the 1980s, BB cream has been named “the secret of Korean actresses” and has been heavily endorsed by Korean celebrities, which gained it large exposure in these Asian markets.
BB creams come in a variety of different formulations and qualities mainly perceived as being anti-inflammatory and having a soothing effect. As companies focused initially on the East Asian market, BB creams have a limited number of hues. Due to its “multi-tasking” all-in-one properties — moisturizer, primer, foundation, and sunblock — the cream became a hit in Asia, especially in South Korea, where BB creams make up 13% of the cosmetics market. The cream’s popularity has reached the point where it is now also used by men in South Korea…..
I’ve tried a few BB creams now and struggle finding ones that don’t react with my skin, bring me out in spots or aren’t more of a foundation. I was recently asked if I would like to share my thoughts with you on The Sanctuary’s Skin Perfecting BB Cream, after hearing some really good things about it I was curious to see how it would fair with me too.
The Sanctuary’s Skin Perfecting BB Cream I am reviewing is in Light To Medium, but it is also available in Medium To Dark (Information Here). Here is a little information about the Light to Medium formula, including the technical details…
This silken light, one-step Skin Perfecting Blemish Balm melts into the skin, instantly concealing imperfections and fine lines to provide long-lasting, natural looking coverage…..

The colour on the BB Cream is really adaptable, I could easily where this with my natural pale skin or wear it when I have a tan (Whether fake or natural). At present I am quite tanned naturally and it blends into my skin lovely and even. Even if I take it onto my neck which I do with almost all foundation products I find there are no telltale ‘tide marks’ and my neck is easily a couple of shades lighter in skin tone than my face!
The fragrance is gorgeous! I have to say out of all the products I have used on my face this is probably my favourite. I would describe it as fruity and sweet with a hint of floral. Not over powering at all, it actually is quite invigorating and makes me feel awake and relaxed all in one go – perfect for first thing in the morning when I’m usually sleepy!
Coverage with BB cream is generally light to medium. I find with the Skin Perfecting BB Cream most of my scaring is covered (From Acne and eczema), for blemishes that are fresh sometimes I need to add a little concealer. My skin tone is evened out with this BB cream, so any redness around the cheek area or nose is covered, no additional concealing is needed in those areas at all. As a whole it gives a good light to medium coverage giving your skin a beautiful, bright glow without making it feel like its suffocating. I definitely feel this gives your skin a brighter complexion, but not in a ‘shiny’ sparkly way like some foundations can (Rimmel’s Wake Me Up foundation leaves me shiny and sparkly, something I’m not keen on).
On a serious plus note, for those who have sensitive skin like mine (I suffer with both eczema and psoriasis) this product has given me no reactions what so ever! I’ve had many issues with other BB creams causing irritation to my eczema or making it look ‘flakey’. The Sanctuary’s Skin Perfecting BB Cream was both moisturising and soothing on my inflamed areas.
Overall, I really love The Sanctuary’s Skin Perfecting BB Cream. Its become something I have been using almost daily and friends have commented on how bright and glowing my skin looks. I love the finish on my skin and how my pores don’t feel clogged at all. I’ve not found anything I don’t like about it, which is saying something as with my skin I can be a bit picky when it comes to face products.
You Can purchase The Sanctuary’s Skin Perfecting BB Cream directly from The Sanctuary’s website for £14.99 for 50ml. I find the tube lasts a reasonable amount of applications and is quite good value for money. Available in 2 tones (Light to Medium and Medium to Dark), it will be suitable for many skin tones.
This is a BB cream I really am quite taken by and can see me purchasing in the future again when I’ve got an empty!
