I’m not what you would call a colour snob, if I like a colour or brand regardless of price I like it. I don’t mind own brands products at all. I was however extremely impressed recently colouring a friends hair (From Platinum blonde may I add – but I did pre-pigment) with Superdrug Foam Colour Dark Red Brown 4.5. The results were really good and as the colour was on 3 for 1 at Superdrug (Thats £5.99 for 3 hair colorants – BARGAIN ALERT!!) I decided to check out what else they had on offer.

I decided to buy their semi-permanent Creme Sensations as it was on offer too at 2 for £4.99. I’ve done A LOT to my hair recently and I didn’t want to put anything harsh onto it. I decided on Dark Chocolate Brown as this was closest to my hair colour at present and the last semi I had used on it.

The Creme Sensations dye is much like other semi permanent dyes. You have a full set of instructions, plastic gloves, creme colour (tube), creme developer and conditioner (tube).The semi-permanent dye is applied to TOWEL DRIED HAIR (This mean you wet it and do not shampoo it, then towel dry it and give it a comb). There are 2 methods;

  • Full head -Where you apply the colour to the whole head and leave it for 20 minutes and then rinse and condition
  • Touch up/Roots – Apply colour to root area where there is regrowth, or to the areas that need the colour for 15 minutes. Then comb through remaining colour and leave for a further 5 minutes before rinsing and conditioning.

I chose the Touch up option as my ends where they were ombre despite being pre-pigmented when coloured brown still don’t hold colour too well and were lighter than my roots and mid-lengths. I applied the colour to my ends where they were lighter, waited 15 minutes and then applied it everywhere for 5 minutes. I then rinsed and applied the conditioner for 2 minutes before rinsing again.

The result?

I am SUPER impressed. For an own brand product which was on offer too at £4.99 for 2 (So, roughly £2.50 per box!) I have a really great colour result which is very close to the box colour. My hair is glossy, shiny and I can honestly say I’ve never used a semi-permanent colour which has ever left my hair so soft. I think I may have found a new favourite semi permanent!

Now, this colourant is supposed to last up to 24 washes. I find they never last that amount with me and especially with my ends. However, I did get 16 washes out of my colour before I needed to do it again and by that point it was time to do my roots anyway. My hair has never held semi permanent colours well and as my ends fade quick because they were originally bleached they wouldn’t last 24 washes without a lot of help. However, my root area which had also had the colour on was still the same chocolate colour. So, I’m pretty sure that would last nearer the 24 wash mark. Either way Superdrug Creme Sensations is a bargain!

Another plus point for the extension wearers out there, I have found Superdrug Creme Sensations Natural Dark Chocolate 5.0 matches my 16″ Shade #4 Chocolate Brown Halo perfectly on my hair.

The Superdrug Creme Sensations semi permanent colours are still on offer at Superdrug for 2 for £4.99. They usually cost £3.49 each which I still think is a bargain price. I will definitely be getting another 2 on offer to save myself some money!!

Lots of Love,

Mel xxxx
