Review: Paul & Joe Beaute Spring 2012 Meow! Collection

Although I’m slightly late to the party on this collection I wanted to do my own take on the Paul & Joe Spring Collection, Meow! In honour of Paul & Joe’s 10th Anniversary, the Spring 2012 collection has been inspired by creator and designer Sophie Albou’s love of cats and the iconic french sex kitten, Bridget Bardot.

With a collection on my favourite animal in the world how could I not do a post on this! The collection is designed to take you from day to evening and has a good colour range so should appeal to everyone.

I love the ad campaign designs, being cat mad it really does appeal to me! Although this is about the make up I felt that the images had to be mentioned!

Face and Eyes; These 3 gorgeous palettes are designed to be used on your cheeks and eyes. Each palette has 3 shades which compliment each other but in 3 different finishes; matte, pearlescent and shiny.

Siamese, Please… (076) – neutral yet elegant bronzes and beiges blend together for a natural, beautiful look

Kittycat (077) – matte nude and pearly pink are the perfect pairing for a feminine effect

Purr-fect (078) – smoky yet subtle ivory and moss add intrigue and depth for a daring look

I have been lucky enough to be sent Purr-fect (078) and thought I would share my eye of the day look I did using it. I was really surprised as although it was described as a ‘smokey’ and ‘moss’ palette it’s not grey or really a moss green at all. In fact in swatching you will see its actually a beautiful green/gold shaded palette – I am truly in love!

The swatch on the right of the shadows is more beautiful in life and the shot doesn’t do it any justice at all. Its actually a gold shade with hints of green in it and looks absolutely puurfect!

You can just make out on this eye look the gold tones on the inner area of my eye, the deeper shade was used in my socket and outer corner and the beautiful white highlight is on my brow bone and inner corner – due to the strong light this is washed out on camera I am afraid.

The shadows were easily workable and buildable on the eye. There was some fall out but I fully expected it and this was easily removed. My only fault with the palette was that I hated using it as I didn’t want to mess up the beautiful ‘kitty’ design inside! I would love to see Kittycat swatched as this would look great on cheeks I think too!

The face and eye palettes are all limited editions and cost £19.50, I wish I could have them all!!

Lipsticks; There are 3 beautiful lipsticks in the Paul & Joe collection which are so precious I know I’m going to have to have them all! Beautifully designed they each have 10 paw prints on the actual lipstick to commemorate the 10th Anniversary. The lipsticks are very sexy tones and have matt finishes.

From Left to Right Above…

Sex Kitten (075) a sexy, nude beige for a seductive look

Meow! (076) a sweet, natural pink for an adorable look

Catwalk (077) a modish coral colour for a glamorous look

I was extremely lucky to be sent Meow! (076) the gorgeous Bridget Bardot design lipstick. With its shocking red casing and Bardot print it is beyond gorgeous!

Its almost a shame to use it as I don’t want to lose the 10 paw prints on the lipstick its self!

Swatched you will see it is a beautiful nude pink which would suit most skin tones I feel. Its a really nice creamy velvet finish on your lips which isn’t drying at all – unlike with some matt lipsticks. I can see me wearing this a lot although I may have to buy another one just so I can keep that puurfect too!

The lipsticks are limited editions and cost £16.00 each.

Blusher; Completely adorable, these cat head shaped blusher sticks (Which also have bow ties on!) are creamy and glide on your skin effortlessly. Great for contouring or just dabbed on like whiskers across the face and then blended with your fingers or paws!

From Left to Right Above…

Glamour Puss (001) a pearlescent beige that instantly highlights and contours the cheeks

Minou (002) a romantic and subtle pink for a fresh yet glamorous look

Catfight (003) a bold and beautiful tangerine for a burst of bright, energetic colour

I’m so glad I didn’t get sent this as I couldn’t have used it. These are just too adorable! I love the casing and love the design of the actual blusher sticks. Sophie is a complete genius!

Waterproof Gel Eyeliner; No classic french film actress (Especially the noir series) would be seen without the classic liner flick and this eyeliner is puurfect for the job. Its waterproof formula means you will be looking amazing all day with beautiful feline shapes eyes.In addition, this waterproof liner comes with an elegantly packaged tapered flat brush – perfect to control application and ensure the look you desire.

I haven’t tried this although I’ve read several reviews saying it doesn’t smudge and lasts really well.

The waterproof gel eyeliner is a limited edition and costs £16.00.

Nail Polish; The shades in the Paul & Joe Meow! collection for nail enamel is all about the natural allure and sex appeal women have. I feel its almost like when you see a beautiful women who looks amazingly natural and graceful, she has a magnetism about her. This (For me) is what these beautiful shades are all about.

Left to Right;

Tigress (025) a pearlescent nude hue that enhances your feminine allure

Kitten Claws (026) a high society, soft pink color for picture-perfect fingers

Manekineko (027) a bright, hot pink that is as romantic as it is playful

You all know how one of my favourite things in the world is nail varnish, I really loved this part of the collection. All 3 colours are very wearable and perfect for the Spring trends. I am mostly drawn to Kitten Claws (026) I think – the name alone is adorable!

The nail varnishes are limited editions and cost £10.00 which I personally feel is more than reasonable.

Matt Pressed Powder; La creme de la creme for me of the whole collection. I love rich and beautiful compacts and this one doesn’t disapoint in any way, shape or form.

Leave a lasting impression of beautiful confidence with Paul & Joe’s NEW Matte Pressed Powder. This gorgeous, fresh feeling powder is enclosed in an adorable cat- design compact case. With an elegant texture that goes on effortlessly and feels weightless, it contains a Spicy Beige shade in the shape of an adorable feline that can helps contour the face and a translucent, Clear Beige shade that leaves skin looking matte and flawless for an unforgettable, shine-free look this spring.

Being a limited edition it is available in just one colour; Cinnamon. A natural looking warm beige, which leaves the skin flawless.

The Matt pressed powder is £28 and is worth every single one of those pennies – I must have one!

My overall opinion of the whole collection is one of lust and need. I think it is beautiful and elegant; definitely a wearable collection and perfect for Spring when you don’t want to be too heavy with your makeup. My hat goes off too Sophie Albou with these cat like goodies, a must for all handbags!

Officially I am in love.

Lots of Love,

Mel xxxx
