I wear gel liner almost daily, my most used is a gel liner as I like the precision I get from the product and the intense colour. Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner is not a new product to me, I have owned 2 of the black formulas. I decided recently to try the Brown as I wanted something a little more natural.
Here’s a little information about the Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liners….

Now as I have never reviewed the black formula but mentioned it numerous times in tutorials etc I have to say its probably the best formula I have EVER used in a gel liner. It beats Black Track by MAC in my opinion, is less of a dry formula and more blend-able. Also, although its not a ‘wet’ formula and does dry in good time, if you choose to blend it out as a smudgy look, its easily done. Plus the best thing is its almost half the price! The brown formula is EXACTLY the same in performance, just in a different shade. Eye Studio Lasting Drama is my favourite gel liner (Can you tell?)!
With the Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner you get a brush along with the gel liner. I think this is a nice touch. In honesty the brush isn’t bad quality at all and although its a little thick I feel for a fine line application, it works fine. I personally prefer to use an angled brush for cat eye liner and this kind of brush for tight lining.
With the gel liners from Maybelline, what you see is what you get. The colour is as intense in the pot as it is on the eye! The black is BLACK, not grey and wishy-washy and the brown is a beautiful intense brown. My one ‘gripe’ if I can call it a gripe with the Brown formula is I feel it has a slightly metallic finish. It isn’t a straight matte brown but has a slight shimmer – nothing obscene or in your face – I just wanted to put that out there thought.
I feel the Brown formula is perfect if you want something a little more subtle than black. I do love a strong cat eye effect liner look, but sometimes black can be a little harsh. The brown is more natural, even if you use it for a cat eye. I often tight line with this now and use the black for my cat eye liner.
As many people talk about gel liners drying out (MAC Black Track is appalling for this I feel!), I want to say that I had my Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner in Black open 6 months before it dried out. Even then it was still useable, it just meant I needed to wipe the brush to get some of the harder chunks off. However, at such a reasonable price I just replace them now as soon as I notice signs of them drying out.
Over all I struggle using any other gel liners as I like these so much, these in my opinion are the best and I’ve used a lot! I’d rather get 2 of these over a MAC now any day. I would also compare the formula to that of the Bobbi Brown Gel Liner, so if you like that, give this a go!
The Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner costs £7.99 a pot and is available in Boots, Superdrug and other selected supermarkets and pharmacies.
Lots of Love,
