Like most girls out there, I do love chocolate and when I saw the MAKEUP REVOLUTION I Heart Chocolate Palette I had to buy it. Now not just because it looks good, because trust me it does, but also because its a fantastic dupe for the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette!
I first want to start off by saying I do not own the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette, however I have used one and was amazed when I looked at how similar the I Heart Chocolate palette from Makeup Revolution is compared to it. Now, we all know there are a lot of dupes for things out there, but often going cheaper can mean losing colour pay off, sometimes longevity. I could pap on about how good the colours match up and how great of a dupe this is, but as I don’t have the Too Faced palette here, I recommend checking out JuliasAllure (Post Here), who has done a side by side comparison with some fantastic photos too (She has a great blog so make sure you do check her out!). My review is going to be purely on how these shadows perform and yes it is a good dupe, but my thoughts on whether this should make your collection.
Here is what MAKEUP REVOLUTION have to say about their I Heart Chocolate palette…
Life is a box of….
Pick and mix for your eyes. You will want to try EVERY chocolate in the box! Mixture of mattes and shimmers
Now the I Heart Chocolate palette comes in a box, much like a box of chocolate would. I don’t really find the packaging striking, but it does mean its easier to store the palette if you keep it in there and stack your palettes like I do. On the back we can see an image of the colours in the palette, there is a slight ‘pattern’ to some, so you get a good idea of what is shimmer/satin and what is matte.
Inside we are met with a glossy palette shaped liked a melting chocolate bar. Yes it did make me a little hungry but that is probably because I am writing this at lunch time. The casing is sturdy and heavy, so I feel would be secure if you were travelling and contains a good sized mirror (Its the size of the palette), a double ended sponge applicator (Useless piece of crap, sorry but I can’t stand these things) and the 16 eyeshadows.
Inside the I Heart Chocolate Palette there is 6 matte shades and 9 shimmer/satins. The mattes vary in shades of cream to brown with 1 pink. There’s enough depths there to great a good crease/transition shade for most skin tones. The shimmer/satin shades are varied too, mostly sticking along the brown scale of thing (Obviously, this is a chocolate palette!!) there is also some russets and a nice smokey purple there too. If I was going to be totally fickle I’d complain there’s not a black, but owning a silly amount of palettes, I could always use one out of those – still I think it would have been a good colour to include.
This palette is perfect for the current 90’s trend, you can also create good smokey eyes with it in a variety of intensities and its a palette that works both for day and evening looks in my opinion. I created a simple day time look using, much like I wear most days;
You Need Love all over the lid and up to the brow, One More Piece through the crease as a transition, Pleasure Girl in the outer ‘V’ and along the last line and a little Chocolate Love in the outer V too blended just to make my blue eyes pop a little.
I found the eyeshadows all blend easier, have good pay off (Some better than others, but you could build them up) and last well on the eyes. I personally feel most eyeshadows whatever the price range last the same and it has a lot to do with the primer you use (If you use one). Without primer I got about 4 hours wear, with I got more. They are a little powdery, so tapping off your brush is a must and when using the darker shadows in this palette I would recommend concealing under the eyes after (Do your foundation after if this is something you don’t mind practicing).
Over all, I think the I Heart chocolate Palette is a great buy. It costs £7.99 and in comparison to the Too Faced palette is both easier to get hold of (Especially if you are in the UK) and a lot more cost effective on your pocket too (Meaning you can go and buy more makeup!). The colour range is great, I prefer browns for my eyes as they really do make my blue eyes stand out more, but this palette is great for all eye colours. I’d even go as far too say this may take over my coveted spot of Urban Decay Naked palettes, that really is saying something! Whether you are on a budget or not, I would recommend checking out the I Heart Chocolate palette, even though I own a stupid amount of palettes I’m glad this is part of my collection now and can see this being a firm favourite throughout Autumn/Fall.
