If you do a search online for reviews on the Bondi Sands tanning range, its really hard to find a bad review. This really peaked my interest as the reviews were from a good range of bloggers, some were sent the products, others purchased it themselves. Most of the reviews though were on the Self Tanning Foam and I wanted to try the lotion, so I bit the bullet and bought it!
If you’ve followed my blog you will know firstly I’ve been self/fake tanning for years (About 25 now) and used a lot of products. I prefer mousses or lotions to sprays as I find the end result is usually better. I also find mousses can dry my skin out a lot and never pop those on my face. Lotions are a preference but getting a good one that smells good, doesn’t make you smell like a biscuit after and gives you a good colour without streaks and fades well is a REALLY tall order! Let me tell you how Bondi Sands Self Tanning Lotion in Dark faired in my review.
Here is some information on the Bondi Sands Self Tanning Lotion in Dark…
Bondi sands self tanning lotion dries in seconds to a stunningly rich natural flawless looking tan that last longer. Enriched with aloe vera, your skin will feel soft and smooth. bondi sands lightweight formula applies easily leaving your skin with a healthy natural bronzed look like a day on Bondi Beach.
Firstly let’s talk about the scent of the product, both on application and after. Everyone goes on about how Bondi Sands products smell amazing and I’m not going to lie and say they don’t. If you love coconut, tropical scents that remind you of holidays, then this product is definitely for you. However, its not the scent of a fake tan as it goes on that people talk about, its after you have rinsed it when you get that biscuit like fake tan scent that everyone can smell and knows what it is. So, does the Bondi Sands Self Tanning Lotion smell funky when you have showered AFTER application? Yes it does, although not half as bad as other tanning products I’ve used. In fact, this one probably smells the least. Its easily masked with either a body spray or a nicely fragranced body lotion or body butter. So, yes it does have a scent but you can easily hide it!
The colour… Well, I like a dark tan. Even though I’m exceptionally pale till we get some sun in the UK I do tan very well. I may be from Essex but I do not want to look like the Tango Man or an Oompa Loompa, my tan needs to look dark, golden and natural – well as natural as if I’ve been on holiday to somewhere nice for 7 days. The colour results of the Bondi Sands Self Tanning Lotion in Dark on first application were ok. I got a nice golden tan and it did look natural. However, I did expect a little more colour from the application, so I ended up applying it again – which gave me the colour I wanted! Beautiful deep golden tan like I’ve been to Cyprus for a week. No orange in sight! This does veer slightly on the olive side, but it does not look green by any means!
Lasting power and streak free results? Well, this product fades nicely and didn’t give me those nasty tell tale signs other tanning products sometimes do (And yes even everyone’s beloved St Tropez gives me that orange peel like fade! And St Topez is not one of my favourites may I also point out!). The Bondi Sands Self Tanning Lotion in Dark faded as gracefully as it was applied and I was very happy with the fading. It lasted 7+ days too but bare in mind I did have a double application. As for being streak free, I didn’t get any streaks/marks/nasty bits. But I have been applying fake tans a VERY long time and rarely do. For application I exfoliate first (That’s the most important bit), moisturise my knees, ankles/feet, elbows, hands/wrists, then apply the tan to my body with a tanning mitt (Not doing my feet and ankles with the mitt!) and then apply a small amount of tan to my feet/ankles and hands using a buffing brush. I also use a buffing brush (Mines an old one from ELF Cosmetics) on my face where I apply the tan too.
Bondi Sands Self Tanning Lotion in Dark moisturised my skin like no other tanning product! In fact the He-Shi Tanning Gel (Review here) I reviewed recently was pretty amazing, but the Bondi Sands is definitely more hydrating and also left my skin feeling better for longer! So, in terms of hydrating the skin I would say the Bondi Sands product is better!
So over all as you can see I’ve had a really great experience with Bondi Sands. In fact, I was probably a little harder on it after reading such great hyped reviews as I just couldn’t believe it could be that great – but in my tanning books, it really is! The only down side but its the same with ALL tanning products is the scent on your skin after you wash the tan off, however as I said this was one of the better ones and it was easily masked with some body lotion! So, yes I thoroughly recommend this one. With it being a tinted product its easy to see where you’ve applied it, its absorbed quickly, left my skin feeling amazing and also gave me a great tan! No complaints here, Bondi Sands have a new fan!
Lots of Love,
