The Hat of the Matter – My 10 Ten Head Wear Items for Autumn/Winter

I love hats, I love every kind of hats, I just want to wear them all but I can’t…. Can’t wear every hat!

Sorry I could resist, the ‘I love Cat’s‘ viral video song still gets sung in my house! Back to the ‘Hat’ of the matter though, I really love hats. Winter is a time of year where even the most conscious of people I know will actually wear a hat who normally would never consider this just because its getting colder outside. I think its a shame, hats are so underrated as a fashion accessory. Many people think that they don’t suit them, or feel silly wearing them; in reality there is a hat style for everyone!

Myself on the other hand, I will wear pretty much any hat on my head. I have always loved hats from when I was young and as my mum would say, am one of the lucky ones who can pretty much pull off any style. I don’t think its about having the right face shape or hair, I think its about being confident wearing them that makes them more attractive!

Here is my list of the Top 10 Head Wear Items for Winter this year which had made my wish list.

(I have deliberately not included snoods/cowls as they are essentially worn around the neck ,even if you can wear them on your head to keep it warm they don’t count as head wear. I’ve also not included hair extensions either even if they are worn on the head! They are a necessity not an accessory LOL!)

This is the Miss Selfridge CAMEL BOW BERET priced at £12.50. I love Beret’s as you will see from my list of head wear items but I especially love the little bow detail on this one. It comes in other colours too if beige isn’t your thing – the red is absolutely gorgeous, a complete show stopper! They look so cute on, great with short hair or long and are suitable for most face shapes too – best of all this beret look like it is a wool like fabric so will be super warm!

Head wear doesn’t necessarily mean a hat in Winter, this gorgeous item from Miss Selfridge LUREX ANIMAL HEADBAND is priced at £12.50 and too cute too miss out on! I love Alice Band style headbands and with the gorgeous trend of animal prints still upon us I feel this will be a sought after item for Winter – at least it will be in my house!!

Nothing like keeping those ears warm too and these super fury and VERY cheap muffs can be found at NewLook Aztec Fairisle Earmuffs £4.99. I couldn’t believe it when I saw they were only £4.99! My daughters love earmuffs and I’ve been even known to sport a pair at times! Worn with short hair or long, up or down – it doesn’t matter they look good and keep your ears from turning bright red!

Now this is a hat! I’ve seen many campaign shots recently sporting Trilby’s and this one from NewLook Wool Feather Trilby is a steal at £7.99. Available in a charcoal colour too I just love the feathers and the contrasting ribbon. These hats suit anyone at all and if worn with confidence can really be a contributing piece to brightening up a rather low key outfit! I think NewLook this year is definitely going to be somewhere to check out when it comes to accessorising on a budget!

The ultimate of warmth and look absolutely amazing with a sweater and long hair this is from Republic Soul Cal Deluxe Sherpa Trapper Hat and priced at £14.99. The Trapper Hats can be found cheaper else where but I personally love Republic in the Winter for accessories, especially hats as there’s are really great quality and reasonably priced too!

This picture says it all, she looks stunning! Another great buy from Republic Soul Cal Deluxe Sherpa Ear Muffs  are £9.99, more than the NewLook ones but I have to say I love the sheepskin effect on these and they look really good. You can’t really get more of a casual look, minimal effort but great accessorising with the ear muffs, I love it!

This Beret is gorgeous, from Top Shop BOW PEARL BERET BY ALICE HANNNAH £20.00 its all about the detail and the little bow just sets this off completely. If black isn’t your thing its available in other colours. This beret can easily be dressed up or down; worn too work with a sophisticated look or worn down with a girlie feel – this is a worthwhile investment for Winter!

I always think of snow when I see these headbands but I love them so much and think they look amazing on. This one is from Top shop FAUX FUR POM POM HEADBAND and priced £12.00. Great with any length hair and amazingly quite warm too, they keep your ears warm and look effortless. If you are a dab hand like me with a set of knitting needles you can find some really great patterns out there too knit them yourself at a fraction of the price!

Winter wouldn’t be fun without an animal hat! I love the wool ones but this fur number from TopShop FAUX FUR CAT EAR HAT priced at a rather steep £28.00 is too cute not to mention! I may be 35 but I still will wear hats like this, not only are they amazingly warm but they look really good on. Are you daring enough to put some ‘meow’ in your wardrobe?

This last hat was a hard choice as it was a toss up between this and a Fedora (Which I also love!), but alas Beret’s are my favourite and so this contrast Beret from TopShop MAGENTA CONTRAST BOW BERET priced at £10.00 won the battle. They are doing it in numerous other colours and I can’t help but feel I’d match the contrasting to my lipstick or in some cases nail varnish. Super cute, looks great on and an investment I will definitely be wearing!

I hope you like my Top 10 headwear items for Autumn and Winter, I haven’t even mentioned the other great thing about hats yet… THEY HIDE THE WORST CASES OF BAD HAIR DAYS TOO!

Are you a Hat Lover?

Lots of Love,

Mel xxxx
