Summer seems to have finally hit the UK, so I thought it was time to talk about some Summer handbag essentials. Here are some things that will make your days a little easier while out and about. From keeping you cool and protected, to refreshing your look too!

Summer Handbag Essentials

Boots Soltan Once Face SPF50+ – If there is one thing EVERYONE should NEVER be without these days its sun protection. Causing premature ageing aside, there’s obviously the other risks sun exposure can cause and sun protection is a must in my books. I love the Soltan Once Face as it has a high SPF50+ which means its protecting and moisturising my face, but also love that this is long wearing with up to 8 hours of protection in 1 application! The scent and feel of this product on reminds me of most face moisturisers. There’s that fresh scent with good hydration without it feeling heavy. I keep my base to a minimum in Summer and either wear this under my BB cream or on its own. At £10.00 its a reasonably priced product that offers great protection and small (50ml sized tube) enough to keep in your bag for on the go!

Boots Hot Weather Cooling Spray – If there is one product I could recommend you get to keep in your bag it would be this cooling spray! Oh My! Its currently 27 here in Essex as I type this and this nifty spray is a godsend. Easy to use, you literally spray this over your face about 30cm from from your face and body. Its a light mist, it won’t soak you and dries quickly although you can blot dry after a few seconds if you feel you need too. It cools without feeling sticky, in fact it doesn’t feel like I’ve anything on which I love.  What I also think is great about this product is it lasts ages and is only £3.99. There is also a sensitive skin version too at £4.19 and both are 150ml in size.

Lee Stafford ARGANOIL from Morocco Anti-Frizz Serum Spray – Step away from your frizz and get it in order! I think in Summer we all can suffer with a little frizz. Whether its because our hairs a little over processed (Hello Bleach blonde ends over here!), naturally curly, dried out from the sun or just the humidity attacking us from all directions. The Anti-Frizz Serum Spray is great when used in small doses. If you have finer hair I’d recommend using this one sparingly, but it still works a treat. If you’ve smelt ANY of Lee’s products you will know they all smell AMAZING and this one is no different. Easy to use, hold this about elbow 45cm away from your hair and spray lightly from the mid-lengths to the ends. If I’m wearing my hair wavy I just run my hands through the ends lightly after, if its smooth I’ll use a brush. I will say if you have extensions and they have gone puffy from the humidity YOU NEED THIS IN YOUR LIIFE! I use this on my extensions and find it works a treat. Also did I mention it has Argan oil in there? Another hair bestie and essential in my hair armoury. At £9.99 for 200ml this is going to last you a while, it smells amazing and works a treat on me!

SEVENTEEN Gel Colour in Lemon Drop – Many people wouldn’t think it carry their polish around with them in their bag yet will carry a lippy instead. Erm, why not? Picture this, you are meeting your future love for a hot date. You look down at your nails and realise you’ve got a chip! What do you do? You are already out, the shops are shut? Well, why not reach in your bag and just touch up that chip. No one will be the wiser – crisis over. I love SEVENTEEN polishes especially the Gel Colour ones. They last great on my nails and have a beautiful finish. Lemon Drop is perfect for Summer (And Spring if I’m honest) and looks amazing with a tan! At £3.99 they don’t break the bank, so why not cover that emergency nail chip ‘just in case’ crisis and keep one in your bag?

Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic Spritzer – This has been a staple when it comes to my skin in Summer time. I reviewed this in my early days of blogging (Post here for full review) and fell in love. It really was love at first spritz! If your skin is looking a bit dull or dry then this is a great pick me up and perfect for your handbag. I have a full sized one at home, but now Liz Earle do a perfect 30ml sized bottle which is great for your handbag and a definite essential. Just close your eyes and spray a few times on your face. It has a gorgeous scent and instantly boosts your skin making you look hydrated and feel revitalised. A must have in my books. The small 30ml spritz bottle costs £6.00.

No7 Lovely Lips Lip Balm – I never leave the house without at least one lip balm in my bag. In fact I admit to having as many as 4 or 5 at a time and that’s without lipsticks too (I admit I’m a hoarder!). If you are looking at a lip balm with a gorgeous tint of colour that will hydrated those lips without the sticky feeling of a gloss, then you need to be adding these to your essentials in your bag. Pictured I have Poppy Petal and Deep Raspberry. Both beautiful shades that will suit ALL skin tones. I love these products as I have a touch of colour with beautifully moisturised lips. No7 is one of my favourite brands and I own so much of these collection but I have to say I think these Lovely Lips Lip Balms may be in my top 5 products from them! There’s 4 shades to choose from and they cost £9.00 each.

No7 Velvet Lash Mascara – Anyone who knows me will know a mascara is a handbag essential and if there’s one I think is great for Summer it would be my No7 Velvet Lash. I have purchased 3 of these now since reviewing it in December last year (Full review post here). It is my most repurchased mascara ever. In Summer I opt for 1 coat. My lashes look defined and long, sexy but not over done. It lasts on my lashes, no flakes or panda eyes which can be hard if you don’t want to wear a waterproof mascara in Summer (Does anyone else find that sweat makes their mascaras run too? Well this one isn’t waterproof and it never runs on me). Its a must have and at £13.50 won’t break the bank either. I just noticed they do this in Brown/black too and I only ever use black but in Summer that shade would probably look amazing – ut oh, I think I’ve another purchase coming on!

Polo Sugar Free Extra Strong – This isn’t just a Summer handbag essential. This is an ALL YEAR AROUND handbag/pocket essential in my books. I know what you are thinking, Polos? Really Mel? But, yes really! Ok, these aren’t just great to have in your bag to freshen your own breath. If you have children like me and don’t really like them having gum, these are great! They are actually accredited by the Oral Health Foundation as being kind to teeth, so perfect for children too as well as adults. I love that they keep my breath fresh, they keep my kids happy when they want something minty and are small enough to be in my pocket or my bag when I’m out and about. Whether its after I’ve had food or drink, or just as a breath freshen up Polos do the trick. They are cheap too so you can’t go wrong (And if you are watching those calories, good for that too!). You can grab these in most shops and they are around 50p!
