I think everyone who colours their hair wants to make their colour stay true to the day you coloured it. But with frequent washing this can strip the colour from your hair. There’s many colour shampoos on the market these days but many are expensive and you are left wondering whether they will work or am I wasting my money? Well, I may have one that could work for you and its at a reasonable price too.
After testing out the Smooth and Sleek range by Pantene Pro-V I was more than happy to try Pantene’s Pro-V Colour Protect and Volume range and share my thoughts with you about it.
The whole range is designed to give you up to 8 weeks colour protection meaning you keep your hair colour the way you want it for longer. A bold claim I felt but I was more than willing to put it to the test. I colour my hair every 4 weeks (I have had grey patches since I was 21 and hate it showing – but please lets keep that between you and me) so can only say what I feel about these products from a 4 week point of view.
There are two shampoos and two conditioners in the Pantene Pro-V Colour Protect range; Colour Protect Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner and Colour Protect Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. I have been using the Colour Protect Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. The shampoo and conditioner both have similar fragrances and are slightly floral with a fresh fruity undertone. Neither are over powering on the hair and leave your hair feeling soft, smooth and glossy. I have always found Pantene Pro-V to be great at leaving your hair beautifully glossy so was not surprised when I found how well my hair looked and felt.
Also there is the Colour Protect Colour Seal Concentrate, this is a conditioning system that you use once a week instead of the Colour Protect conditioner. It smelt and looked to me much like the conditioning formulas you get with some permanent colours (Like Clairol Perfect 10) and is very easy to apply. You shampoo your hair as normal with the Colour Protect shampoo of your choice and then apply the Colour Seal Concentrate to your hair. Massaging it into your hair from root to tip. Leave it in for 2 minutes and then rinse. This product I found left my hair like I had just coloured it, with a high gloss sheen and extremely soft. I used this product once a week for 4 weeks and found my colour lasted really well.
My favourite product in the Colour Protect Range which I can see me buying again and again is the Colour Protect Instant Nourishing Shine Spray. This stuff is amazing! I’ve used many similar products in the past not always aimed at locking colour in but for giving your hair protection and shine and nothing has compared to this. It really brings out the tones and gloss of your coloured hair. Even on highlights! I still have bleach high lights in my hair which I colour over, these can sometimes be slightly duller than the rest of my hair but with this spray I found they looked amazing. Full of shine and sparkle. The spray is very easy to use; just spray it through towel dried hair after you have washed and conditioned your hair. Then style as normal. It is designed to protect your hair from every day styling and add shine and gloss. I do not know if this is a heat protectant spray, it does say it protects against future styling damage on the bottle but not that its a heat protectant, so I used a separate one when styling.
Lastly in the range is the Colour Protect 2 Minute Damage Rescue Treatment. This is a conditioning mask that protects your hair from every day styling and breakage when combing. It is especially designed for damaged hair and is used after shampooing much like the Colour Seal Concentrate. I did not try this product but think it would be just as good as the other products in the range.
I am so glad I tried these products from Pantene Pro-V, firstly as they have kept my colour for the past 4 weeks (Bar my roots obviously) and left my hair smooth, silky and shiny. I can’t really comment on the volume side as I have quite thick hair which gets volume easily. However I did notice more body in my hair. The shampoo and conditioner were really good and left my hair feeling great, my scalp has psoriasis and I found that was slightly aggravated by the shampoo but it isn’t Sulphate free so that’s probably why. I loved the Instant Nourishing Shine Spray and can see me using this regularly from now on. The Colour Seal Concentrate is a great treat from my hair each week and left my hair feeling good. I can’t really say anything bad about the products as on my hair they really worked!
The Pantene Pro-V Colour Protect range is reasonably priced too in comparison to other pharmacy/drug store brands;
Colour Protect Shampoo (Volume or Smooth) £2.19 (250ml) £3.69 (500ml)
Colour Protect Conditioner (Volume or Smooth) £2.19 (200ml) £3.69 (400ml)
Colour Protect Colour Seal Concentrate £3.99 (58ml)
Colour Protect 2 Minute Damage Rescue Treatment £3.99 (200ml)
Colour Protect Instant Nourishing Shine Spray £3.99 (150ml)
Boots is currently running an offer on Pantene Pro-V for 3 for 2, so if you are interested in the range you could pick them up there and save some money!
The last thing I would like to add on this review is this; although the Pantene Pro-V Colour Protect range is designed to keep your colour locked in I did not find I had any problems colouring my hair again after using these products. So I do not feel the range would effect colouring your hair or change the result. It purely is designed for keeping your coloured hair looking great from the day your colour it till the next time you do (Up to 8 weeks).
Have you tried the Pantene Pro-V Colour Protect Range?
Lots of Love,
