Hi Mel, Can you email me a picture of your hair if at all possible? Namely as I just want to see the shade of red you are. If its as bright as mine was in the post then you will probably be ok with auburn or even light brown and using the colour restore deep red to colour them. You can buy that in Boots and its a toner, so washes out of your hair (Or your extensions over a period of washes). It would also add vibrancy back into your own hair. If your hair is a darker red than my shade then it might be an idea to buy a darker extensions. That's why I said about the picture. Drop me a message on my contact form and I'll try and help you a little further. If I had my email here it will get 'spammed' to oblivion LOL! x

Hi Mel

I'm also a 30 something Mel with dyed red hair. My natural hair is med/dark brown and I've been dyeing it vibrant red for a couple of years. I don't really know what color restore is. Which colour halo do you suggest i buy in order to dye it to match my red. Should i buy near to my natural colour or the auburn like you did? Should i use colour restore on both my hair and the extensions before dyeing them the same colour? I haven't bought extensions since having red hair as didn't know how best to match them. Grateful for any advice. Thanks. Mel

Hi Gina, Hmm this is going to be a long response.

Ok firstly, your roots won't be as stubborn as your ends to lift when it comes to doing them, so if you bleach them you could use 9% which is suitable for the scalp but can be a little sore (Nothing like putting 12% which is NOT designed for the scalp at all!!) or you could do a strand test with some 6%. I do my roots with a 6% peroxide and blue bleach powder. Now another option would be one of the high lift colous you can purchase, like L'oreal do their blonde seriesI have reviewed their Lightest Ash Blonde (I cant put links in comments but if you search it on my blog you should find it). I found this did take my roots to platinum but my hair is naturally a dark blonde. However, they do a platinum shade too which I've heard works well. One thing though, make sure you ONLY apply this to the regrowth and not your hair you have lightened!! Always stand test too.
Damaged hair rememdies. Ok nothing really repairs damaged hair I have ever found, however you can make it more managable with products. As you will know from my video - COCONUT OIL is your friend!! Can't recommend that enough once a week. Also, I use John Frieda Full Repair Mask (Review coming shortly). I also like the Lee Stafford Platinum Beach range, their stuff is great on blonde bleached hair. I use argon oil on my ends and always used heat protectant. Maybe I should do an updated video on things I use? Would this be helpful do you feel? I liked Aussie 3 Minute Miracle, but found after a few uses my hair didn't feel as conditioned, like it became immune. Still I absolutely love the fragrance of it. Hope thats helped, if you need anything else answered please comment or drop me an email, Mel x

your video's are so fantastic! i recently took my hair from red to blonde (naturally mid brown, had about 4 years of black/brown/red dye on their) so having your video's has been really interesting.

i was wondering if you had any advice on touching up roots? my hair is currently a platinum blonde, and although i've only had it a week, i'm already dreading seeing my roots! i'm not very keen on the idea of putting bleach so close to my scalp, so i wondered if you have any reviews or anything that may help?

i also wanted to see if you had any advice on repairing damage, like any particular products you recomend? i've been using aussie 3 minute miracle, and herbal essences hair masks, but just wanted to see if there was anything else you recomend.

thank you! xox

I have absolutely no idea why the smell would linger than long. I haven't used colour B4 in a long time as I found other better ways to remove colour (Which were less smelly!!). I would recommend contacting colourb4 either on twitter or facebook. They may be able to advise you. I did notice mine would maybe smell for a wash, 2 max but never for 3 weeks! Good luck x
