Everyone has a throwback dress in their wardrobe of some kind. If you are like me maybe its one of maybe only a few dresses you own. So, today’s post is on my Throwback Dress I love and a new possible replacement or maybe one I will love as much from New Look.
My Throwback Dress doesn’t really have a history as such. I bought this nearly 2 years ago from New Look and I think it was around the £12-£15 mark. At the time I was looking for a skater style dress that I could wear for different occasions and to find a dress I was actually comfortable in as I’m really not a ‘dressy girl’. This one fit the bill for me.
Now I know what you are thinking, this could come under the LBD (Little black dress) category and in honesty with the right accessories and heels it really can. However, it also looks great with a loose boyfriend cardi and some converse. I wear it with pumps sometimes too. What I also love about this dress is its ‘bib’/vest top design, meaning when its colder I can wear tops under it and turn it into a bib and brace look dress. This dress looks great with tights or bare legs (Although as you can see mine are in desperate need of some tanning right now!) and is very well worn and loved. Still even though it only cost me a small amount its lasted so well and there’s still a lot of wear left in it. Being slightly stretchy (It’s a 16) means when I am having a bloated day I can still wear it and when I’m having a slim day I can too. I adore this dress, I love the cut (I find skater dresses very flattering on my hourglass figure), I feel comfortable in it and being black it is more of a slimming shade (I’m still one of those women who believe that).
So when I went looking for a new future ‘Throwback Dress’ from New Look I had a few things in mind for what I would want. At first I did try and go with a different colour than black (I really did) and the dress I chose actually comes in a beautiful pink (Which I am going to order on pay day as New Look didn’t have my size at the time). At soon as I saw this dress though I knew it was for me.
The material differs from my original Throwback Dress. Its lighter, more stretchy and floaty. Although still a skater dress in style it seems to fit more like a glove and hugs my curves. Something I don’t always like, yet with this dress feel really comfortable with. It has a cute crochet collar too which adds a small detail to what would be a very plain dress and also an element of femininity in my opinion. Being a lighter fabric this is perfect for Spring, Summer and Autumn although in Winter (Much like my original dress) I would definitely pair it with tights.
I adore the cut and length and think for the price its a great little buy and something I can see me digging out of my wardrobe time and time again like my other Throwback Dress!
The Black Sleeveless Crochet Collar is available at New Look in sizes 6-18 and costs £14.99. To see the New Look’s range of Dresses check out their range here.
