Although the warmer weather is coming (Or at least I hope it is!) you still shouldn’t neglect you hands. Hands are one of the first parts of your body to show your age. Think of the money we spend each year on anti ageing creams for our face, that’s all good and true but if we have hands that look like we’re twice our age its not attractive.
Hand creams are something, I feel too many people forget to use. Even those of us that fake tan will moisturise our bodies to prolong our tan but will often forget our hands are one of the first places our tans will fade. This is why I am a hand cream addict!
I was asked recently if I would like to try Eau Thermale Avène Cold Cream Hand Cream, as many of you will know I am a massive fan of Avène and their amazing skin care range designed for sensitve irritated skin, so of course I jumped at the chance.
For those who like some technical details, here’s a little information direct from Avène;
For the protection of dry, chapped and irritated hands. Cold Cream Hand Cream incorporates the nourishing benefits of traditional Eau Thermale Avène Cold Cream in a rich formula. It leaves the skin instantly hydrated and restores comfort and suppleness.

The generic packaging of the Eau Thermale Avène range makes it easy to find in Boots. I love the crisp white packaging with simple orange graphics. It also makes for easier finding in a dark handbag! The hand cream has a flip top lid and is in a squeeze tube. Its 75ml size is perfect for hand bags, sitting by your computer or even on your sink for after you have washed your hands.
The cream its self is white and has no fragrance. Being unscented makes it a perfect candidate for many who can’t tolerate perfumed products and find this is the problem they often have with hand creams. It is extremely thick and a small amount is more than ample to use on your hands.
The hand cream is easily absorbed to into the skin. You aren’t left with a sticky, wet feeling which I personally hate. My hands feel soft and smooth after, even around the knuckles and joints which are usually dry (Sometimes cracked). It almost has a mattifying appearance afterwards. Your hands don’t look shiny, just natural.
I do feel like I’m a bit of a hand cream connoisseur as I’ve tried so many over the years; from the most expensive (It worked out to be about £30 and come from France), to the cheap ones that you can buy in Boots and Superdrug. I have tried scented, unscented, cream based, oil based and even a grease based one (This was awful). Eau Thermale Avène Cold Cream Hand Cream in my opinion ticks off many boxes for those of us with sensitive skin (I’m a eczema and psoriasis sufferer) who struggle finding something that works that we don’t have a reaction too. It is extremely gentle on the hands, even the areas where skin may be broken I didn’t find there was any irritation.
With prices of hand cream varying so much, I didn’t feel that £5.50 from Boots
for a product that is of a high quality and designed for sensitive skin was bad at all. You often find because your skin is sensitive you end up paying more for products, but for the money 75ml will last you a fair time even if used a few times daily!
I have also found a really nifty trick too, which I will share with you. When the weather turned really cold again and my hands were very sore and chapped, I ended up using the hand cream as like a hand cream treatment. Before bed I applied a little more than usual to my hands, really massaging it into the joints but leaving a slightly thicker residue rather than rubbing it all in. I then popped on my cotton mitts (I bought these months ago from Avon I think) and went to sleep. When I woke in the morning my hands were so soft and moisturised and feeling much better too. Over night much of the redness I had from where they were chapped was gone and they didn’t feel as cracked as they had been. I recommend this kind of treatment to anyone! If you struggle finding some cotton mitts, just get a pair of cotton socks – I know it looks silly but trust me your hands won’t regret it!
I can’t recommend this hand cream enough, I am now on my second tube and can see me buying this again and again.
The Eau Thermale Avène range can be purchased online and in store at Boots, a must have for sensitive skin.
Lots of Love,
